How do I help my child express emotions?

Children need a safe outlet for feelings before they can control them.

What to do, step by step:

  1. Name emotions daily.
“You look frustrated,” or “You seem happy today.”
  2. Use feeling charts or faces.
    Visuals help them identify emotions.
  3. Model expression.
“I’m sad, so I’m taking deep breaths.”
  4. Encourage journaling or art.
    Expression through play releases emotions.
  5. Normalize all feelings.
“It’s okay to be mad or sad—feelings come and go.”
