Why does my child copy my bad moods?

Children are emotional mirrors. They feel what we feel before they understand it.

What to do, step by step:

  1. Notice your energy first.
    Before correcting them, check your tone.
  2. Name your feeling.
    “I’m feeling frustrated, but I can stay calm.”
  3. Model regulation.
    Show them breathing or quiet time.
  4. Repair if you slip.
    “I was grumpy earlier. Sorry about that.”
  5. Teach awareness.
    Help them notice emotions without judgment.
